Volunteer Outing

Good Afternoon,

This is regarding tomorrow's outing for all volunteers. As stated in the Attachment sent out last week, please kindly meet at Harbourfront mrt station (in front of the passenger service counter) at 0830 hr sharp. Please wear comfortable clothings, shoes and remember to bring at least a bottle of water (hat & binoculars are optional, however the programme coordinator for the bird watching suggests that if its possible bring a binoculars).

This weekend Hui yi will not be in Singapore so she has called me to inform you guys on the training this Saturday.


VOLUNTEERS’ TRAINING & GET-TOGETHER SESSION

Date : 6 December 2008 (Sat)
Time : 9.30am – 5pm
Venue : CDAC Auditorium
65 Tanjong Katong Road (HQ)

Programme Outline:

9.30am – 1.30pm Training Session – Understanding and Working with Youths

1.30pm – 2.30pm Buffet Lunch

2.30pm – 5.00pm Get-together Session – Captain’s Ball(free & easy)

TRAINING SESSION: UNDERSTANDING & WORKING WITH YOUTHS

Understanding youths is the first important step towards successfully working with youths of all ages. Knowing what normal development is for each age enables us, mentors and befrienders, to effectively interact with youths and build positive and successful relationships with them. This half-day course will provide you with a deeper understanding of youths and the techniques in working with them, and you just may find your job of relating to youths less stressful

Upon completion of the course, you will be able to:
- Explain the developmental needs of youths
- Establish a greater self-awareness when working with youths
- Identify effective skills and techniques in working with youths

Course Outline:
- Process of working with youths
- Understanding the mindset of youths
- Developing a non-judgmental mindset
- Developing a time-frame for your youth/youth group
- Setting goals and objectives for yourself and your youth
- Working in pairs
- Developing a good mentoring system

Profile of Trainer
Ms Felicia Tan has a Specialist Certificate in School Social Work. She is also an accredited trainer in MBTI. Felicia was previously heading the Youth Service Team in REACH Family Service Centre, and is now heading the Parenting Teens Programme. She has extensive experience in conducting group work programmes in schools for students, counseling and conducting family bonding activities for both parents and their teens. She has also been a key facilitator in mandatory programmes in Singapore Boys’ Home and Toa Payoh Girls’ Home.
